accreditation and certification
Despite clear ACC/AHA guidelines to address both STEMI and NSTEMI ACS, problems of care continue. Currently available antiplatelet options are imperfect, presenting potential difficulties. Additionally, evidence-based therapies shown to improve outcomes for ACS are frequently underused in appropriate patients.
This symposium will address appropriate treatment approaches and potential changes in the approach to antiplatelet therapy for ACS patients from emergency settings through long-term maintenance.
intended audience
This activity was developed for clinical cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, emergency medicine physicians and primary care physicians treating patients with acute coronary syndrome.
learning objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
· Utilize current ACC/AHA guidelines in treating patients with ACS
· Discuss the epidemiology of ACS
· Assess issues in current antiplatelet therapy, including efficacy, safety, and resistance
· Evaluate the efficacy and safety of emerging antiplatelet therapy options
· Describe the implications of various therapeutic options for patient care,
including combination therapy and long-term therapy
